All the eyewear world in Milan from 4 to 7 May
The 37th Mido – the topmost International Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology Exhibition in the world – hasn’t opened yet but the growth forecasts have been confirmed with an exceptional +14% net exhibition space assigned versus 2006. This means 52,500 net sq.m versus last year’s 46,000 sq.m. This fantastic result goes to show that the decision to transfer the exhibition to the new Fieramilano complex in Rho-Pero was the right one. The decision came mainly from the desire to offer more services to all exhibitors and has now been confirmed with a better distribution of the exhibition space and more visibility. Exhibitors have confirmed this growth trend with a +8% in attendance figures over the previous year.
Mido 2007 therefore looks set to be a record-breaking event that will attract all players in the industry from around the world as well as being a forum for the entire eyewear world, a must-attend event so as not to miss out on the important opportunity to meet and talk that only Mido can offer.
The initial exhibition layout has been changed with the 37th Mido adding another pavilion – No. 6 – that will go to join 1, 3, 2, 4, 5, 7. One of this year’s new entries is the Mido Design Lab, an evolution of the area once called Mido Trend and focused solely on design products and prototypes. This is an important and exclusive showcase for companies that have been selected by a special commission of experts.
At the eastern entrance (Porta Est) with a subway stop (Red Line which also goes to Piazza Duomo in central Milan) inside the exhibition grounds, are Pavilions 1, 3 and 5 hosting manufacturers of frames and sunglasses; Pavilion 2 (lenses) and Pavilion 4 (frames and international group exhibitions); Pavilion 7 (Mido Design Lab and the Press Village); Pavilion 6 (Mido Tech, hosting machinery and component manufacturers as well as a number of service areas, such as the Foreign Club).
“We are extremely pleased with the figures that are coming in from the new Mido – said its President Cirillo Marcolin – and would like to underline that today, more than ever before, what once seemed to be just an advertising slogan, “The New Mido”, takes on a new meaning as the facts show. The 2007 event is all about renewal, innovation and internationalization, and the new location along with the larger exhibition layout, were the first signs of our desire to change and our great commitment. Our many efforts have met with the wide approval of our exhibitors to the extent that we can already talk about a record-breaking Mido. We are now concentrating all our efforts on obtaining the consensus of our visitors as well.”
Among the many events leading up to Mido from 4 to 7 May in Milan, the International Vision Expo East in New York is certainly worthy of note.
This is precisely where the “New Mido” will begin to take shape from 22 to 25 March 2007. The task of helping it make its first step towards the future has been entrusted to the famous designer Vicente Garcia Jimenez who will be designing and dressing the Mido stand in the United States.
The result is a perfect mix of attention-grabbing atmospheres, made of essential, sleek, almost elementary shapes; a modular structure, conceived and designed to be an art gallery where attention-grabbing images of the new Mido spaces alternate with concepts that have a strong visual impact.
