Attendance Up in Conference and Exhibit Hall

International Vision Expo show management today released audited attendance and demographic figures for International Vision Expo East, which took place in New York, NY from March 22-25, 2007.  This year's total show and conference attendance was 15,246 eyecare professionals.

“International Vision Expo continues to grow and thrive as the single most relevant event for the entire ophthalmic community,” said Eileen Baird, group vice president, Reed Exhibitions and show manager.  “Between the growing exhibit hall and the innovative Continuing Education Program, International Vision Expo is able to meet all the needs of today's vision professional, regardless of job title.”

In 2007, both the Continuing Education program and the Exhibit Hall saw attendance growth.  Continuing Education attendance grew from 2,966 to 3,016 participants, up nearly 2 percent.  Exhibit Hall attendance grew this year from 12,185 to 12,230.  This year's attendance increase follows on the heels of a 6% attendance increase in 2006.

“The high quality of the attendee differentiates International Vision Expo from any other ophthalmic event,” said Deborah Malakoff, vice president trade shows, Vision Council of America.  “Vision Expo is increasingly becoming a destination of owners, opticians, optometrists, buyers and independents.”

The audit reveals that 33 percent of the total attendees at International Vision Expo identify themselves as owners.  21 percent of 2007 attendees are classified as buyers.  28 percent of attendees work for independent optometry practices.  Additionally, 20 percent of 2007 International Vision Expo attendees are international, up from 17.5 percent in 2006.

International Vision Expo is the only optical event to offer a comprehensive, transparent audit of its attendance data.  The full audit report is available online at www.visionexpoeast.com

International Vision Expo and Vision Expo West are trade-only events that draw more than 40,000 people each year.  The shows, which are widely known as the place to see and buy products, have recently grown into the largest providers of Continuing Education for eyecare professionals.  Co-owned by Reed Exhibitions and the Vision Council of America (VCA), International Vision Expo gives back to the entire ophthalmic community.  VCA takes revenue generated at the International Vision Expo shows to create programs that educate consumers about the importance of regular vision care.
