house of the sector’s leading publication, Fotoptica.

Looking at the future: Optiferia – Expo Optica 2006
The launching of Optiferia – Expo Optica 2006 showed the strategic synergy between Optiferia and Visionware, the publishing house of the leading publication in Argentina, Fotoptica magazine, aimed at professionals of the optical sector. In addition to Optiferia’s experience in the tradeshow business in general and in the optical market in particular, this edition now enjoys of Fotoptica’s well-known expertise in communication, events, marketing and promotion in the optical market.
Optiferia – Expo Optica 2006 will be held on August 11-13 in Centro de Exposiciones Costa Salguero in the city of Buenos Aires. With regard to the expectations of the show’s third edition, Daniela Fernández Romero, manager of Visionware and director of Fotoptica, said, “There is a strong alliance between the media and the tradeshow companies for specific markets, which is great and has proven effective worldwide.
In this particular case, we have to add the direct dialogue with professionals of the optical market, opticians or businessmen, dialogue which Fotoptica has started 18 years ago and still works hard to maintain. Moreover, we have worked non stop and this gave us the expertise in the organization of tradeshows over the years. Yet we could assert that our main contribution has concentrated in the area of communication, promotion and image development. After the most serious crisis Argentina has gone through, the show was successfully held during the last two years. In its third edition, it is time for the world to know.”

A new image
Next year, Optiferia – Expo Optica presents a new image, the salient feature of the whole advertising campaign. Ms. Fernández Romero explains that “the development of the chosen image for Optiferia – Expo Optica’s 2006 campaign followed the main international trends in optical tradeshows. We understood clearly that our search had to be oriented toward a concept capable of summarizing the values that constitute and define the market: fashion, design, innovation and, above all, additional value.”
In this sense, the show organizers have meticulously selected the best professionals to work in the campaign, and they have closely monitored every step of the process. The campaign’s protagonist is a top model with a brilliant career that represents the trust in an excellent product such as this show.

Numbers in Optiferia 2005
Held on August 12-14 in Centro de Exposiciones Costa Salguero of Buenos Aires, Optiferia 2005 provided space for a total number of 7,100 professional visitors, amounting to an increase of 54% if compared with the previous edition. Likewise, after housing 500 foreign visitors in 2004, 2005 edition registered an increase of 15% in regional visitors.
This year’s edition hosted 105 exhibitors (exceeding by 133% 2004 participation). Last year’s event was held in one pavilion; yet, the growth in exhibitors’ participation extended the show to two more pavilions, 4 and 5, with an area of almost 35,000 square feet (113% more than in 2004).
Giving visitors the chance to see the best market products and services, this show’s edition offered each and every sector of the optical market:
• Frames and sunglasses
• Accessories
• Ophthalmic Lenses
• Contactology and laboratories
• Equipment
• Ocular prosthesis
• Optical chains
• Optical Software
• Universities and Professional Colleges
• Foundations and Unions
• The Media

Optiferia 2005 has become the place where the main protagonists of the market reunite, with a format that was best received by both companies and optical professionals.
During the three-day-long show, visitors coming from Argentina and other countries of Latin America had the chance to get acquainted with the industry’s latest news.
Likewise, exhibitors worked hard offering promotions, raffles and other activities with which they drew visitors’ attention and participation.

Accomplished goals
Both Optiferia’s organizers and exhibitors were satisfied with the results of this year’s show. To them, the show represented a direct way of communicating with the opticians from around the country in one place, during three days; but it also represented the possibility of doing business during the show. This is why the majority of the exhibiting companies in Optiferia 2005 have confirmed their participation next year in Optiferia – Expo Optica’s next edition.
With respect to the accomplished goals in the event’s second edition, Feredico Ratner, manager of Optiferia, said, “When we started in 2004 with the first edition of the show, our main goal was to offer a show whose approach would not only appeal to all sectors of our market, but it would also be a long-term show from the commercial and institutional points of view, this being the only way to give rise to real professional consolidation in a tradeshow. Today, we believe that we have accomplished that goal, since we are organizing the show’s third edition, being held on August 11-13 2006, guaranteed by the fact that we have far exceeded the number of visitors and the approximately one hundred stands exhibiting in the show’s last edition.
This growth nourishes from the will that we always have and that allows us to associate for 2006 edition with Visionware, the editors of Fotoptica magazine, the doyenne in this field in Argentina. Because we grow from our own improvement, now we also understand that the moment has come for us to open the show to the world. This is the reason why we work in this subject.”

A show with glittering lights
One of the outstanding qualities of Optiferia 2005 was the presence of a great deal of celebrities who visited the show and the stands, where they took pictures, signed autographs, and talked to the visitors.
In the show, there were many celebrities walking though the corridors, celebrities from the show business, the fashion business and from sports. This, in turn, ended in an enormous repercussion of the event in the media, which published and aired news coming from celebrity participation in Optiferia.

Conferences on professional updating
During Optiferia 2005, there were a series of professional updating workshops that dealt with key aspects of ophthalmological optic and contactology.
Under the coordination of Sociedad Argentina de Contactología (SAC abbreviated in Spanish) and Camara Argentina de Optica (CADEO abbreviated in Spanish), the conferences were held on August 12 and 13.
With the participation of the exhibiting companies, they developed a modern subject in an essentially pragmatic perspective, with the idea in mind of offering optical professionals a new approach with respect to the last techniques and available products.
